When choosing an instructor its important to ask questions and make an informed decision. Lessons are an investment just like any other sport and/or educational activity. Education is the key to everything. That is why we offer lessons from beginner to advanced in the Western discipline. Taylor Turn is a great place for anyone interested in learning about active horsemanship. We will supply a horse for the lesson or you may use your own. The age requirement is 7 years old (in most cases). Currently the ages of students are 6 to 50-something. Everything in the western discipline can be covered. Classes are held Mon-Fri with some Saturdays. A lesson once per week is required. All lessons are one hour long. In some cases, our instructor will travel to you i.e., 4-H students, more than one class scheduled on the same day at the same location, etc. Lesson plans are constructed around each student's goals. Our goal is to teach about what it is you want to know. From pleasure riding to competitive showing we can help you reach your goals. A totally exclusive option at Taylor Turn is open riding. We offer hours available for students and their families to ride and practice. Hours will be available every week. The expense for this is only $10 per person! Not even Brown County can beat that price! This is only for current customers who are taking lessons and their immediate families. Competitors in 4-H and open shows are more than welcomed. Horses are available for lease. There are discounts for 4-H competitors. Taylor Turn is establishing a name in the show community and would like your business. Even if you don't board or train with us, let us help you have a winning season! Students are already showing and winning. Don't let this year pass you by. Get started taking lessons now to be prepared for the show season. For students who don't own a horse, what equipment is required? Only long pants, hard tennis shoes or boots, and a helmet for children under 8 years old. As part of our service, we provide all the necessary equipment for the horse. Evaluations are given every month to determine the student's progress. The progress reports are not written but verbally spoken. They are not anything to be worried about. Progress reports are a way to keep everyone on the same page. A lot is required out of our students, but its done with a light-hearted hand. Making the education process fun is one of our best attributes. The prices of lessons are not priced on the knowledge your gaining. Knowledge is priceless. They are priced mostly on how much it takes to keep the horses everyday, own the equipment, and the time that is necessary for lessons. Please keep in mind that horses are an expensive investment. To own and maintain enough horses used for lesson purposes only is quite expensive. Each horse has been picked to join our family because we have very high standards. Only horses/ponies with training and experience are used, to insure you and/or your family's safety. Typical riding lessons includes retrieving the horse/pony 10-15min before lesson begins, grooming, tacking, and riding. Riding an hour gives time to practice and improve the skills towards the student's goals. When the riding lesson is over the horse should be un-saddled and brushed off. |
HORSEBACK RIDING LESSONS |
Group lessons are the most affordable for most families. This option is offered for those who can't afford weekly private lessons, but still want to ride and learn on a weekly basis. Also, those who aren't sure if horseback riding is for them, this is a great way to find out. Groups are limited from 3 to 5 students. Group lessons are good for a lot of kids who feel private lessons are too much. Some kids can handle a group lesson better, due to attention being dispersed. Group lessons may be a prerequisite for some students. Groups are arranged by age and/or experience. Keeping age and experience close permits learning for all riders. Having a more experienced rider in a beginner group would prohibit the top rider from advancing. Individual attention is dispersed throughout the group. Watching others ride and learn is often helpful. Group lessons are a wonderful way to experience and learn about horses. |
Group Riding Lessons |
Semi-private lessons include two pupils and the instructor. This allows some to enjoy more of a personal lesson compared to the group. Still only having two students in the lesson helps to insure time and communication quality. Goals are reached in a timely matter. Semi-private lessons are recommended for all levels of riders. No prerequisites are needed. Students will be grouped together by age and/or experience. Family members and friends wishing to take lessons together are also acceptable. Keeping the environment friendly is important to the learning process. |
Semi-Private Riding Lessons |
Private lessons are the best you can buy. These lessons are best for the students who are very interested in learning more about horsemanship. Private would not be for the "newly" interested student. Recommendations for private lessons are those who compete in 4-H, showing, or have taken several lessons and know they want to continue their education. Our private lesson offers one on one instruction. The total hour session is devoted to the learning process. Students feel at-ease in the learning environment. Instructions are not yelled out, but given in easy to understand terms and tones. Questions and answers are given easily. Students set their own goals, with a little bit of help from the instructor. Goals are reached more quickly in private lessons. A goal can be anything from learning how to ride to competing in a specific event such as Western Riding. Once the goal is accomplished another goal can be set. There isn't a specific amount of lessons it takes to reach any one goal. The amount of time it takes is left up to consistency and ability. |
